Experimental Research on Archies Parameters at Different Frequencies
As the basis of reservoir interpretation, Archies formula can be used to calculate the oil saturation.Empirical parameters need to be provided for the purpose of applying to a certain region.Archies parameters a, b, m, n will change according to different measurement frequency, lead to a large error in the calculation of oil saturation by different well logging methods. The parameters are calculated under the frequency of 1 kHz in laboratory, while they are used in all kinds of electric well log interpretation. Therefore, it has a great significance for the reservoir interpretation to study the parameters variations at different frequencies. With the frequency ranging from 12 Hz to 100 kHz, we measured the resistivity parameters of different core samples in laboratory.Through the experiment study based on sandstone reservoir, we found that parameters a, b close to 1 and have a small variation.Under the condition of fully saturated water, parameter m decreases with the increasing frequency, same as the phases change of complex resistivity. With the increasing frequency, parameter n increases firstly and then decreases, while phase decreases firstly and then increases.Yet their frequencies of extreme point are close in the two cases. So we conclude that the phase of complex resistivity is the most important information which closely related to lithology structure and pore fluids in the rock, thus Archies parameters should have certain relationship with it.We ought to use appropriate parameters m and n under the corresponding frequency of the electrical logging apparatus during the data processing and interpretation.
