Effect of core size on thermal conductivity and compressive strength on bamboo fiber/PP composite with honeycomb structure
The aim of this study is to clarify the effect of core size on compressive strength and thermal conductivity of bamboo/PP composites with honeycomb structure. The thermal conductivity and compressive strength were measured when core sizes which were cell wall thicknesses and cell sizes were changed. The evaluation index was defined as the ratio of thermal conductivity to the specific compressive strength which was equal to the strength divided by density. In addition, the properties of bamboo fiber composites with honeycomb were compared with those of jute. The compressive strength was increased when core size was reduced while cell wall thickness was increased. When the specimen was molded by bamboo fiber, the index was not much affected rather than that by jute.Effective property was obtained by applying bamboo fibers compared with that by jute fibers. This study found that honeycomb structure of bamboo fiber composite had potential to be applied for practical materials such as interior and flooring plate.
