INVESTIGATION OF MICROFIBRIL ANGLE OF FLAX FIBERS USING X-RAY DIFFRACTION AND SCANNING ELECTRON MICROSCOPY
The microfibril angle of S2 cell wall has an important effect on the mechanical properties of flax fiber.In this paper,the microfibril angle were determined using two methods: Xray diffraction(0.6T method)and scanning electron microscopy(direct observation).There was no significant difference in the microfibril angle obtained by X-ray diffraction(6.2°~7.2°)and scanning electron microscopy(5.8°~7.3°).There was a good linear correlation(>0.9)between two methods.The result makes us more certain that X-ray diffraction(0.6T)can be used to measure the MFA of flax fibers and it is more fast,accurate and efficient than direct observation.
