THE EFFECT OF ALKALI TREATMENT ON APOCYNUM VENETUM BAST FIBER AND THE PREPARATION OF BAST/PLA COMPOSITES

  Apocynum Venetum(AV),which is famous as the King of wild fibers in XinJiang Province in China due to its excellent properties.To broaden its application in composite field,the AV bast fiber reinforcement composite was prepared in this study.Herein,the AV bast fibers were treated with alkaline(NaOH)solution,and then the AV bast fibers before and after treatment were characterized by the mechanical test,Scanning electron micrographs(SEM),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),and X-ray diffraction(XRD).It was found that the tensile strength of the treated AV bast fibers were significantly improved in comparison with the untreated fibers.Afterwards,the untreated and alkali-treated AV bast fibers were made into fabrics,which were used to prepare the bio-degradable composite with polylactic acid(PLA),the basic mechanical properties of the composites were tested.
