Morphology Evolution of α-Al2O3 from γ-Al2O3 Precursor with CaF2 Additive

  Spherical-like α-Al2O3 powders were prepared by calcination of industrial γ-Al2O3 with 1 wt%CaF2 at high temperatures.Influences of ball milling pretreatment and the additive on the morphological evolution of α-Al2O3 powders have been studied.It is found that the morphology,grain size and grain size distribution of α-Al2O3 powders are closely related to the morphology of γ-Al2O3 precursor,CaF2 additive and calcination temperature.α-Al2O3 grains with good sphericity of about 0.5μm are obtained by the calcination of γ-Al2O3 precursor with 1 wt%CaF2 at 1400 ℃ for 3 h.
