Effects of Boron-containing Additive on the Properties of Al2O3-SiC-C Taphole Clay
In this paper, the tap-hole clay of Al2O3-SiC-C system was studied. With fused white corundum, silicon carbide, coke, resin powder, silicon nitride-iron and ball clay as the main raw materials and boron -containing additive as sintering aids, the effects of the amount of boron-containing additive on the structure and properties of tap-hole clay were studied by means of TG, SEM and XRD. The results show that the bulk density (BD) decreases gradually with the increase of boron-containing additive, while the apparent porosity (AP) and hot modulus of rupture (HMOR) increase gradually and the tap-hole clay has good slag resistance. The boron-containing additive can promote the sintering of the tap-hole clay and makes the tap-hole clay volume shrink after treated at 1000 ℃. However, the formation of mullite compensates for the shrinkage produced by sintering after treated at 1450 ℃, and has a great influence on the linear change (LC), AP, BD and cold crushing strength (CCS). The experimental results show that the comprehensive performance of tap-hole clay is reasonable when the 4% of boron-containing additive is added.
