Synthesis of Lightweight Forsterite Spherical Aggregates and the Research about Their Application in MgO Based Castables

  Used magnesite fine powder,natural silica powder,light-burned magnesia fine powder,silica fume and middle grade magnesia fine powder as the starting material,silica sol as binder,spherical aggregates were formed on disc pelletizer,then they were calcined at 1400 ℃ for 3 hours,finally high purity lightweight forsterite spherical aggregates were synthesized.The synthesized forsterite spherical aggregates were added in MgO based castables with MgO-Si02-H20 binding system to replace equal density high purity forsterite common aggregates,effect of forsterite spherical aggregates on properties of MgO based castables was investigated.The results show that: Compared with equal common aggregates,lightweight forsterite spherical aggregates can improve castablesflow ability and decrease water addition; Addition of spherical aggregate has little effect on cold strength of castables; With the increase of spherical aggregate addition,after being dried and heated in intermediate temperature,shrinkage of samples decrease,but after being heated in high temperature,expansion of samples increase,bulk density decrease and apparent porosity increase,thermal conductivity decline.
