Insights into the Mechanism Between Mold Flux and ZrO2-C Refractories
To gain a better understanding of the erosion mechanism involved between mold flux and ZrO2-C refractories, the micromorphology and structural changes after erosion experiments were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy(SEM).The results revealed that as carbon materials in ZrO2-C refractories were oxidized to form pores, molten mold flux entered the pores to yield insoluble ZrO2 particles. This would ultimately lead to refractory erosion and destruction.However,ZrO2 particles distributed in molten slag can promote molten slag crystallization and change the performance of mold flux, which,in turn, would influence continuous casting processes. Therefore, considering changes in mold flux performances after erosion during the design of mold flux are highly recommended.
