Effect of Heat Treatment Process on Properties of Mullite Fibers
Mullite fibers were prepared by sol-gel process using aluminum powder, crystalline aluminum chloride and silica sol as main raw materials. The effect of heating rate on the average single fiber tensile strength of the fibers was studied. The changes of average single fiber tensile strength, microstructure, linear shrinkage and specific surface area of sintered fibers at different heat treatment temperatures were compared. The results showed that the average single fiber tensile strength of sintered fibers was the highest at 4℃·min-1,which was 1040 Mpa.When the sintering temperature was 1100-1200℃,the surface of the fiber swere smooth and uniform, and some stable crystalline phases appeared in the fibers, and the average single fiber tensile strength was above 900 MPa.
