Flow-induced Erosion of Molten Steel to Corundum Refractory
In the process of steelmaking, the refractory would be eroded by molten steel. In this paper, the erosion of molten steel to corundum refractory was studied with the method of static sample immersion ventilation. The results show that the occurrence of refractory erosion depends on the critical erosion strength of the material. With the increase of argon blowing, the erosion occurs when the erosion stress of the molten steel is greater than the critical erosion strength of the material.Erosion starts from the matrix where the weak part of refractory until the aggregate spalls, and the erosion depth gradually increases with time; the wall strength of the refractory gradually decreases as the erosion time of the molten steel increases.
