Using MgCl2·6H2O to Improve the High Temperature Expansion of Alumina-spinel Castables
Using MgCl2·6H2O to control the high temperature expansion of alumina-spinel castables has been studied.The results indicated that it is very efficient to improve the volumetric stability of alumina-spinel castables bonded by calcium aluminate cements at 1500℃ by adding MgCl2·6H2O.Microsilica is known by its counterbalancing effect on the in situ calcium hexaluminate(CA6)expansion in alumina-spinel castables.However,the decline of the castables expansion at 1500℃ by adding MgCl2·6H2O is implemented by restraining the growth velocity of CA6 crystal in the castables at high temperature.
