Preparation of Porous Mullite-corundum Ceramics with High Closed Porosities
Porous mullite-corundum ceramics with higher closed porosities were prepared by in-situ decomposition technology using Al(OH)3 and coal gangue as raw materials. After sintering at 1600℃ for 3 h,the phase composition, microstructure and room temperature properties of the samples were characterized by X-ray diffractometry(XRD)and scanning electron microscopy(SEM),and the formation of closed pores was explored. The study found that a thick layer of mullite ring is wrapped around the Al(OH)3 pseudomorph, which causes the nanopores produced by the in-situ decomposition of Al(OH)3 to become closed pores. The properties of the sample showed as high compress strength of 103.21 Mpa,bulk density of 1.98 g/cm3,apparent porosities of 24.3%,and high closed porosities of 16.1%.
