Structural Innovation of Refractory Materials for Blast Furnace Hearth of WISCO

  The hearth of blast furnace is the key part which determines the whole life of one generation of blast furnace.The realization of hearth longevity is a systematic project,involving design,materials selection,construction,operation and maintenance et al.Used as the inner lining of hearth,refractory materials excellent performance and reasonable structure are the foundation of hearth longevity.In this paper,the advantages and disadvantages of different hearth structures are analyzed,and the innovation of refractory structure design of hearth in WISCO blast furnace is introduced.From the cooling staves side to the hot surface of hearth,small carbon bricks,carbon ramming and large carbon blocks are built successively in WISCO.While small carbon bricks can be laid close to the cooling staves due to their small size,large carbon blocks have fewer brick joints and good resistance against hot metal corrosion.Besides,the thermal conductivity of the hearth increases successively from the hot end to the cold end,which strengthens the heat transfer effect of the hearth and benefits the formation of self-protecting slag iron shell inside the hearth.The hearth with new structure are in good working condition which is expected to meet the service requirements for 20 years.
