Study on densification Mechanism of Magnesia Sintering by Vacuum Dry Pressing Molding
The highly active magnesia powder was prepared from magnesite as raw material. The magnesite was molded by conventional dry pressing and vacuum dry pressing with high active magnesia powder, respectively, and then sintered at different temperatures. The magnesia were characterized through Archimedes method and scanning electron microscopy. The bulk density, volume shrinkage and SEM of sintered magnesia at different temperatures were analyzed. The results indicated that the vacuum dry pressing molding could increase the contact area and reduce the microcracks by removing the air between the powders. This was beneficial to increase the neck formation in the early sintering process of magnesia, and promote grain growth and grain boundary migration in the last sintering stage. Thus, the formation of intergranular pores was reduced and the bulk density of magnesia was increased.
