The Effect of the Mechanical Alloying on Rutile Reinforced Titanium Powder by High Energy Ball Milling
The titanium is a very popular raw material for the aeronautical application due to its good corrosion resistance and formability. The most common way to produce alloys from powder raw materials is the mechanical milling. In this research titanium powder and rutile powder were high energy ball milled separately for different time intervals. The aim of the research was to characterize the particle and crystalline size reduction during the different milling. The ball milling was carried out with a Fritsch Pulverisette 5 planetary ball mill.To describe the characteristic of the raw powders scanning electron microscopic examination(SEM),digital image analysis,X-ray diffraction measurements and laser scattering particle size distribution analysis were carried out.
