Selective Cracking Development in a Selectively Laser Melted Nickel-based Superalloy
Various cracking mechanisms involved in selectively laser melted Inconel 738LC(Low carbon)have been investigated. It is demonstrated that large pores, inclusions and grain boundaries with special characteristics are particularly susceptible for cracking development. The grain boundary cracking, which accounts for the majority of the cracks in the as-fabricated samples, was found to be associated with segregation of W,Si and O and the presence of fine grains at the boundaries between two large neighbouring grains.Large grain misorientations have been observed at grain boundaries with or without cracks, suggesting that they do not inevitably lead to cracking development.
