Effect of Sintering Partial Pressure on Sintering Behavior of Al-SiC Composite Material
The LED and microprocessor assemblies require integrated thermal management. These solutions include a heat spreader and heat sink that are in contact with the heat generator and heat in the total packaging assembly. The Al-SiC composite material is chosen as these integrated heat spreader and heat sink solutions which have provide the following property attributes.Aluminum matrix composite reinforced with silicon carbide were prepared by powder metallurgy process in this study. The composites powders were compacted at 500 MPa and sintered at 650℃ in nitrogen with the partial pressure at 1.33%10-2,4.00%10-2,6.67%10-2 Mpa in vacuum furnace. The influence of sintering pressure on mechanical properties of the metal composite was investigated. The results indicated that low partial pressure of nitrogen caused aluminum alloy evaporation, and enhanced the bending strength decreased. However, increasing the partial pressure at the same temperature, the evaporation of aluminum alloy can be greatly reduced.
