Water Atomized Stainless Steel(SUS316)Powder for MIM Parts with Excellent Surface Properties
Comparative water atomized powder and developed water atomized powder of SUS316 stainless steel(Fe-11Ni-17Cr-2Mo)were prepared.The content of oxygen is 0.361 mass%and 0.328mass%,respectively,and the content of carbon is 0.028 mass%and 0.190mass%,respectively.The average particle size(D50)of the powder is about 9μm.Each powder was used to manufacture MIM parts.The sintered body was sintered while changing the sintering temperature from 1573 to 1648K.The density of the sintered body and the oxygen content as impurities were measured.As the sintering temperature increased,the density of the sintered body increased and at 1648K the density of the MIM part using the comparative water atomized powder was 7.80Mg/m3.On the other hand,the density of MIM products using water atomized powder was 7.85Mg/m3.The reduction rate of the oxygen content(ΔO)of the powder and the sintered body was about 0.07mass%in the case of the comparative water atomized powder,however it was about 0.25mass%in the case of the developed water atomized powder.In the MIM part using developed water atomized powder,the carbon-oxygen reaction progressed as the sintering temperature increased,so that the oxide was reduced and the porosity was reduced.Therefore,we were able to obtain MIM products with low oxygen content,low porosity and clean surface.
