Fabrication and Pool Boiling Test of Powder Injection Molded Porous Copper Structures Using Space Holder Technology
In this research, various porous structures with different pore size and porosity were fabricated by using powder injection molding(PIM)and space holder technology. The used materials were copper powder, polymethyl methacrylate(PMMA)as a space holder, and wax-polymer binder system, which consists of paraffin wax, polypropylene, polyethylene, and stearic acid.During the manufacturing processes, using different size and content of space holder caused different pore size and porosity, respectively. The optimal solid loading of the mixture containing powder,PMMA,and binder system was measured by using torque rheometry experiments. The mixture was produced by using twin-extruder mixer. After that, the porous structure was fabricated by using injection molding, debinding, removing the space holder, and sintering processes. After the porous structure was fabricated, pool boiling test with the porous structure was carried out.The porous structure makes the critical heat flux increase.
