Checkmate climate change using affordable PV system technologies in Nigeria
Climate change that varies across countries is based on human use of fossil fuels for electricity generation causes greenhouse gases(GHGs)trapped in the atmosphere as a result the global warming.Nigeria use of coal, gas, hydropower and generator set have contributed to the alarming rate of climate change including level of GHGs from gas flaring, consumption and transportation. They all causing the local and environmental pollutions. This paper intention is to examine how to reduce impacts of climate change with development of sustainable energy source for electricity generation in order to encourage more focus on sustainable future by Nigerian government with purpose of policy implementation and economic diversification than dependence on the traditional fossil fuels. This paper with a study report identify economic approach for minimising impact of electricity generation n the environment using simulation software and innovative financing model. The methodology provided fifty-five questionnaires with low-middle income bracket and case studies for off-grid applications at different locations in urban-rural areas across the country. The two aspects have the advantage of empowering and encouraging users to install PV system without moving parts,clean-reliable,sustainable and environmentally friendly. The results of the off-grid installed PV on roof-top/ground mounted with adequate generated electricity useful for users and generators in Nigeria. However,GHGs with environmental implication may not be reversible but economic impact can be reversible by using good policies in Nigeria. The investment concern is to stimulate renewable clean energy technologies such as solar PV system in phasing out or reducing generator use of fossil fuels due to the air pollution from the electricity generation in Nigeria.
