A Study on How Social Capital Influences the Duty Behavior of Independent Directors
In order to study the influence of individual social capital of independent directors on their performance, the non-financial listed companies in Shanghai and Shenzhen A shares in 2008-2015 were selected as samples.Based on the social capital theory, the individual social capital of independent directors is measured from the three dimensions of horizontal relationship, vertical relationship and social reputation. The performance of independent directors is measured by the attendance rate of the board of directors and whether or not to challenge the motion. The empirical results show that the social capital of independent directors is positively related to the attendance and negative opinions of the board of directors, and the independent directors with high social capital can perform their duties more actively.
