Does External Audit of Enterprise Have the Substantive Effect on Credit Decision?--A Comparative Study Using Data from China and Germany
Credit resources are the main source of funds for the enterprises, and accounting information plays an important role during the process of getting credits. In this paper we did an empirical study on how external audit affects credit decisions of enterprises from a comparative perspective.Using data of China and Germany. Our conclusion showed that external audit was unable to help enterprises improving their credit availability and lowering their collateral requirements in China, although banks usually proposed the requirements of external audit during credit applications. On the other hand,in Germany, external audit significantly improved credit availability and reduced the collateral requirements for enterprises. We suggested that Chinese governments should continually improve the auditing systems, establish the integrity of business,so that corporate external auditing could be more useful for credit decision-making.
