The Role of ExtracellularPolymeric Substances (EPS) in Iron Oxide-enhanced Acetic Acid Oxidation and Methanogenesis
During the anaerobic fermentation reaction, the addition of goethite and hematite increases the substrate consumption rate and the rate of methane production and accelerates the methanogenesis process. The addition of goethite and hematite promotes the production of proteins and the production of humic acids in EPS which has electron transfer ability. Therefore, the addition of goethite and hematite promotes the electron transport capability in the production of methanogens, thereby increasing the rate of production of methane.
