EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON THE FATIGUE BEHAVIOR OF CARBON FIBER REINFORCED POLYMER TENDONS
This paper presents the results of an experimental study on the fatigue performance of carbon fiber reinforced polymer(CFRP)tendons. All specimens were tested in fatigue at a constant maximum stress of 1300 MPa(60%of the ultimate tensile strength)and four different stress ranges of 365,400,600,and 800 MPa.The fatigue test results showed that CFRP tendons failed suddenly in a broom-shape manner. The fatigue life of CFRP tendons was reduced significantly with increasing stress range.Compared with steel tendons and strands,CFRP tendons exhibited much better fatigue characteristics, indicating a promising potential for their use in concrete structures subjected to fatigue loading. In addition,a log-linear S-N relationship between the stress range(Δσ)and the fatigue life(N)is presented, which could be used to predict the fatigue life of CFRP tendons for design purposes.
