AXIAL COMPRESSIVE BEHAVIOR OF NATURAL FLAX FRP TUBE ENCASED RECYCLED AGGREGATE CONCRETE

A combination of natural fibre reinforced polymer(FRP)composites and recycled aggregate concrete(RAC)will lead a concrete with sustainability. To date,a large amount of studies have investigated RAC where the recycled aggregates(RAs)initiated from concrete rubble, while the use of RAs from masonry rubble for RAC is very limited. This paper investigated the axial compressive behavior of prefabricated natural flax FRP tube encased RAC columns that composing of partially clay brick aggregate(CBA).The structure was termed as FFRP-RAC-CBA.For the RAC,the replacement ratio of natural coarse aggregates by RAs used as 70%.The RAs consisted mainly of 60%of recycled clay brick aggregates. The experimental variables considered included:(1)strength of RAC-CBA;(2)FFRP tube thickness;(3)size of concrete cylinder. The experimental results shown that that the use of plant-based flax FRP tube increased the ultimate compressive strength and ductility of the confined RAC-CBA effectively. An increase in tube thickness resulted in a higher compressive strength and strain of the encased RAC-CBA.Furthermore,stress and strain models were proposed to predict and compare with experimental results of FFRP-RAC-CBA.
