EVALUATION OF SHEAR DESIGN PROVISIONS OF PRESTRESSED CONCRETE BEAMS WITH FRP REINFORCEMENTS

  Recently,several codes and design guidelines addressing fiber-reinforced polymer(FRP)reinforcements as prestressing tendons for prestressed concrete structures have been published worldwide.In this paper,four design provisions for shear strength of FRP prestressed concrete members,currently used in design practice,were reviewed.These design provisions include ACI 440.4R-04,CAN/CSA-S806-12,CAN/CSA-S6-14,and JSCE-1997.The shear design equations in these codes were then evaluated by comparing their predicitons with experimental shear strength of available test data on 41 concrete beams prestressed with FRP reinforcements.The comparison showed that current design equations either overly underestimated or significantly overestimated the shear strength of prestressed concrete beams with FRP reinforcements.
