EXPERIMENT AND MODELING OF RC BEAMS SHEAR-STRENGTHENED WITH HYBRID-ANCHORED CFRP U-STRAPS
To prevent the premature end-debonding of externally bonded fiber reinforced polymer(FRP)composite used for shear strengthening of reinforced concrete(RC)beams, this paper develops a new hybrid-anchoring system for FRP U-strap.Three specimens were tested to validate the feasibility of the hybrid-anchoring method and a three-dimensional finite element(FE)method was developed to simulate the shear behavior of strengthened beams. The results show that hybrid-anchoring shifts the end-debonding of CFRP to the rupture failure and greatly improve the fiber-strength utilization. It performs much better than the conventional method of externally bonding to improve strain behavior of steel stirrups and CFRPs and increase shear capacity of RC beam. The FE method accurately predictes the shear crak and capacity of the three beams, the strain behavior of steel stirrups and CFRPs,and debonding behavior of the interface between concrete and FRP.
