FINITE ELEMENT MODELING OF RC BEAMS SHEAR-STRENGTHENED WITH SIDE BONDED CFRP SHEETS
Fiber Reinforced Polymers(FRP)has become widespread in strengthening of Reinforced Concrete(RC)beams due to their low weight-to-strength ratio,non-magnetic properties, and resistance to corrosion. The shear design of RC beams is still having great regard because the existing codes need to be checked being based on empirical calculations. This study presents a three-dimensional(3-D)finite element(FE)modelling of RC beams shear-strengthened with externally bonded CFRP sheets using ABAQUS software.A detailed structural analysis model is presented and its results are compared to experimental test results.Three problems are analysed and the obtained results are compared with the published ones to verify the accuracy of the suggested model. The comparison is performed for strengthened and un-strengthened beams and the general behaviors showed a good correlation with the experimental results with a maximum difference not exceed 20%.
