Theoretical and Experimental Study on Axial Strength of CFRP-Confined Concrete-Filled Steel Tubes

  This paper presents a theoretical study on prediction of the axial strength of the FRP-confined concrete-filled steel tubes(CFSTs),which includes the effect of concrete self-stressing.Besides,specimens were tested to investigate the behavior of CFSTs wrapped with Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Polymers(CFRP)sheets subject to axial compression.The results indicated that CFRP wrapping improved the axial strength of the CFSTs by 61.4%.The ductility of the CFSTs was improved as well.The good agreement between the axial strength obtained from tests and the analytical results confirmed the validity of the theoretical model.
