PULTRUDED PROFILE REINFORCED CFFT COLUMNS FOR MARINE CONSTRUCTIONS:BEHAVIOR UNDER ECCENTRIC COMPRESSION
This paper presents an experimental study on the behavior of a new type of pultruded profile-reinforced concrete-filled FRP tubular(PPR-CFFT)column under eccentric compression. This composite column was proposed for application in marine constructions as it is entirely free of any steel and facilitates the utilization of marine locally available materials in construction. The experimental program included 8 full-scale PPR-CFFT specimens and 4 Ref.concrete-filled FRP tube(CFFT)specimens subjected to eccentric compression. With increasing initial eccentricity, different failure modes and mechanical behavior of PPR-CFFT and Ref.CFFT columns were captured. Results from the experimental study show that the performance of PPR-CFFT columns is substantially improved as compared with Ref.CFFT columns under eccentric loading,as integrating pultruded profiles in CFFT columns contributes to enhance considerably flexural strength and stiffness, and provides a progressive failure mechanism.
