MECHANICAL BEHAVIOR OF RC COLUMNS RETROFITTED WITH REINFORCEMENT BUCKLING RESTRAINED DEVICE UNDER AXIAL CYCLIC COMPRESSION
The most critical failure mode of reinforced concrete column under seismic effect is the bulging of longitudinal rebar after concrete covers spalling, which would cause the rapid loss of column stiffness and load capacity. In this paper,8 RC columns were constructed and tested under axial cyclic compression and six of them were retrofitted with a new configuration of reinforcement buckling restrained device, which consists an FRP tube filled with high strength mortar wrapping the longitudinal rebar.Variables in this test including the presence and number of FRP tubes, stirrup spaces and the presence of FCCC(FRP confined concrete core).Test result are presented and examined, which allows several conclusions to be drawn including that the novel buckling restrained device can suppress the rebar from buckling significantly and enhance the column loading capacity and reinforcement strain recovery capacity. It also indicated that the confirmation effect of FRP tube cannot be made full use of under cyclic compressive when tube diameter is not large enough.
