SULFURIC ACID DAMAGE TO CONCRETE WITH CFRP-WRAPPING
This paper presents the effect of carbon fiber reinforced polymer(CFRP)wrapping on the axial behavior of concrete cylinders exposed to sulfuric acid(H2SO4).To assess the performance of CFRP,its constituent materials are also tested in an H2SO4 solution. The load-bearing capacity and stressstrain responses of the wrapped concrete are degraded by the exposure to H2SO4,because the solution penetrates into the core concrete through the CFRP.The failure characteristics of the CFRP-wrapped concrete are controlled by the extent of H2SO4 exposure.
