TORSIONAL STRENGTHENING OF RC BEAMS USING NSM FRP TECHNIQUE WITH CFRP ROPE AND MORTAR

  This paper reports the results of an experimental program using the NSM technique to strengthen RC beams for torsion.Full wrapping using a CFRP rope configuration was utilised for the torsional strengthening,and a modified cement-based adhesive as an alternative to epoxy was used.Four RC beams were poured and tested and the results for two strengthened RC beams are presented and compared with unstrengthened control specimens.The beams were tested using a special torsional rig and the results expressed in terms of the maximum torsional capacity with respect to the peak angle of twist.The results show that the NSM technique with CFRP rope and mortar is an effective method to increase the torsional capasity of RC members.
