BEHAVIOUR OF FRP AND HYBRID INFILL PLATES FOR THIN PLATE SHEAR WALLS

Ensuring sufficient seismic resistance of structures of buildings is one of main directions for minimisation of damages and losses due to earthquakes.Traditional reinforced concrete shear walls or steel bracing that are used to resist lateral loading are not always the most effective and economical approaches.Recently developed thin plate steel shear walls are viable alternative allowing lightweight solution for earthquake resistance, which is very beneficial for high rise buildings. The presented research is aiming to investigate the opportunity lighter and stronger FRP materials to be used in combination with steel for traditionally applied steel infill plates. The investigation is experimental and is incorporating the development of hybrid CFRP and GFRP samples of infill plates. The applied loading is alternative cyclic in-plane load. The experiment is displacement controlled automatically following the regime defined in ATC24 protocol 1 and is including measuring of the applied force,of the strains in range of indicative points and visual monitoring of process of developing of damages including delamination and tearing of FRP layers.Obtained results from five samples including control steel and hybrid with different combination of GFRP CFRP and steel are analysed in aspect of ultimate capacity, process and mode of destruction.Estimation of the energy dissipation and conclusions about level of increasing of load capacity and stiffness of samples are offered.
