EFFECT OF GEOMETRY AND TIGHTENING TORQUE ON THE PERFORMANCE OF LAMINATED COMPOSITE MULTI-BOLT JOINTS
A three dimensional finite element based progressive damage model has been developed for the failure analysis of laminated composite bolted joints. The material constitutive relations and the progressive damage algorithms are implemented into finite element software ABAQUS using user-defined material subroutine UMAT.The present finite element model has been validated by comparing the numerical and experimental results available in literatures. In the proposed numerical model six failure modes have been considered.Failure behavior have been studied for a multi-bolt composite joint considering different joint geometry and bolt-torque.It has been noticed that when bolt torque increased, joint stiffness increases but effect on failure load is comparatively less.
