Tracing sources of dissolved inorganic carbon in a small karstic catchment from Southwest China
In recent years, stable carbon isotope ratios(δ13C) and radiocarbon natural abundances(Δ14C) have beenincreasingly and successfully applied to trace the sources, transformation and transport of terrestrially derived carbon inriver systems which is critical to understand regional and global carbon cycles.Due to large variations in the δ13C andΔ14C values from different carbon pools, the controls on the δ13C and Δ14C variations of different carbon fractions(dissolved inorganic carbon(DIC),dissolved organic carbon(DOC) and particulate organic carbon(POC) remain poorlyunderstood in riverine systems, particularly in small streams. This requires complementing the riverine database withinformation from different types of riverine systems. Thus,a small karstic catchment was selected for this case study.
