Distribution pattern and burial fluxes of Mercury in the sediments of Yellow sea,China
Sixty-two surface sediment samples from the Yellow Sea were analyze for total mercury concentration to illustrate the distribution patterns and access the mercury burial flux in the Yellow Sea.The mercury concentrations range from 4.1 to 38.9 μg/kg with an average value of 17.0 μg/kg.The high concentration of mercury is observed in the mud areas and north part(near the Zhuanghe estuary)of the Yellow Sea,while low concentration of mercury is in the Subei shoal.Fine-grained particles and organic matter are suggested as the dominated controlling factors for the distribution of mercury.Estimated annual sedimentary fluxes of mercury in the two major mud area of the Yellow Sea account for 1.3 tons mercury emitted by China.
