Rare earth element chemistry indicates zircon genesis during the evolution of weathering profile
Although rare earth element(REE)in magmatic zircons has been widely used to identify the type and compositional evolution of host rocks, its abundance and fractionation during the crystallization of magmatic zircons remain more clarification. We investigated the REE characteristics in zircons during different degrees of chemical weathering based on the systematic observations from a granodiorite-weathering profile in southeast China.Despite a relatively stable provenance of studied profile(zircon U-Pb ages are 95.2±4.8 Ma),the zircon REEs exhibit a decrease in REE abundance with systematic differences in REE fractionation patterns from the bedrock to upper layers,e.g.ΣREE,(Lu/Gd)CN and Ce/Ce*.These evidences suggest micro-environment changes in the crystallization of magmatic zircons and are expected to have an influence on the indication of host rock type and magmatic differentiation to some extent.
