Design and Simulationby CFD for the Twin Turbine Flow Sensor

Self-adjusting turbine flowmeters was first developed by Dr.Winston F.Z.Lee of Rockwell International,which were widely used in gas flow measurement,especially natural gas flowmeasurement.In this paper,an improvement on the two turbine blade angles were made.Two sizes of DN50 and DN100 twin turbine gas flow sensor,and one size of DN50 liquid flow sensor were developed.CFD simulation of the internal flow field of the DN100 twin turbine structure and some experimentswere carried out.Theoretical derivation,simulation calculation and experimental results show that,the turbine flow sensor with twin turbine structure has a unique self-adjusting and self-checking function.The maximum adjustment can reach about 6 %for the situation of rotating upstream flow,and slow speed of the main turbine rotor.The experimental results also show that,the turbine flow sensor with twin turbine rotor structure has a wide range of flow,which may reach 20:1.
