Measurements of the Acoustic Path Length in Seawater at Ambient Pressure
An apparatus for highly accurate measurements of the speed of sound in seawater is presented, especially the measurements of the acoustic path length. The measurement principle is based on a path length difference technique, and the acoustic path length is determined by double-beam plane-mirror interferometer and the equipment designed by us.The measurement model was established in order to correct the deflection error in the measurement process and the uncertainty of the acoustic path length was calculated. The achieved measurement uncertainties are 0.2 μ for the acoustic path length. The high accuracy of the apparatus is demonstrated by measurements in pure water in laboratory.
