The Reform of Weights and Measures During the Period of the Republic of China and the Industry of Measurement in Shanghai

For developing industry,promoting commercial and regulating the market,the Nanjing National Government had begun to unify weights and measures with the metric system.The government made laws,established institutions and build the new factories to set up the system of measurement management.Some of the government officials,scientists,educators and business associations made that decision and carried it out,while the others objected to it.The reform of weights and measures had led to a lively debate in Shanghai,and had a huge influence on the industry of measurement and the modern society of Shanghai.
