Development of Sclerotic Changes and Decreased Mastoid Pneumatization in Diseased Middle Ears
Background:The mastoid has been attributed an important role in middle ear(ME) physiology including regulation of ME pressure. However, the normal mastoid with a high degree of air-filled cells can be subject to sclerotic changes in response to chronic otitis media, and the pneumatization of the mastoid is decreased;this is frequently encountered in mastoid surgery.
