Cellulose based Hydrogel for Removal Methylene Blue Dye from Wastewater
Hydrogels based on cellulose-graft-acrylic acid copolymers(C-g-AA)were synthesized in a phosphoric acid solvent.Fourier transform infrared(FT-IR)spectra confirmed the structure of the C-g-AA.The adsorption behaviors of the hydrogels for methylene blue(MB)were investigated. The results showed that their adsorption capacity increased as the initial concentrations of MB and the adsorbed MB were easily released from hydrogels in the acidic solution. When the initial concentration of MB was 1000 mg/L the actual adsorption amounts of the hydrogels for MB was 1248 mg/g with 99%adsorption ratio. The release ratios of MB exhibited pH sensitivity. The MB release ratio exceeded 50%at pH 4.Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm were employed to analyze the data from batch adsorption experiments. The results indicated that there were very good correlation coefficients for their linearized equations. The maximum adsorption amount of hydrogel for MB based on the Langmuir model was 2353 mg/g.
