LIQUEFACTION OF EUCALYPTUS SAWDUST IN ETHYLENE GLYCOL CATALYZED BY C4H8SO3HMIMHSO4
Eucalyptus sawdust was liquefiedin ethylene glycolcatalyzed bythe1-(4-sulfobutyl)-3-methylimidazolium hydrosulfate under atmospheric pressure. The impactof the reaction time, thetemperatureand dosage of catalyst,on the liquefaction behavior of eucalyptus sawdusthasbeen studied in this paper. The liquefied product was separated into three fractions:water-soluble fraction,water-insoluble fractionand residue. The results showedthat liquefactionyield of sawdustincreased with reaction time and reaction temperatureincreased.Eucalyptus liquefaction with a yield upto 96.41%was achieved when 10mmol of catalyst was used with application of 10g sawdust and 60g ethylene glycol at the temperatureof 160℃ for 150min.Hemi-cellulose and lignin were liquefied rapidlyduring the liquefaction process.Cellulose was proven to be main content of residueafter liquefaction.TheFourier transform-infrared(FT-IR),thermal gravimetric and X-ray diffraction analysis of theresidue showed that the residue mainly containedcellulose with high crystallinity. The FT-IR analysis of water-insoluble fraction showed water-insoluble fraction mainly included degradation products from lignin. The gas chromatography and mass spectrometry(GC–MS)analysis showed the water-soluble fraction mainly originated from cellulose and hemicellulose.
