MEASUREMENT AND APPLICATION OF FIBER CHARGE
It is wellknownthat the surface charge density of particles and the amount of soluble charge are key parameters in papermaking systems.Measurement and control of these charges are the first steps in addressing these challenges.In thisstudy,two pulp samples with similar zeta potential and the demand of cationic charge were investigated,using the polyelectrolyte titration methods.The results showed that these two samples had different surface charge and total charge.Under the otherwise the same conditions,the sample with a lower surface charge had a lower sizing efficiency.The deviation between the surface charge and the zeta potential for different fiber come from the lightly charged anionic trash.Theseresults suggested that the direct measurement of cellulose fiber surface charge,can be beneficial to the wet end operation of thepapermaking process.
