PREPARATION OF TEMPERATURE-SENSITIVE HYDROGELS FROM LIGNOCELLULOSE AND N-ISOPROPYLACRYLAMIDE THROUGH SIPN STRATEGY

A kind of hydrogels was prepared from EDA-pretreated wheat straw soda pulp/LiCl/DMSOsolution and N-isopropylacrylamide(NIPAAm)through semi-interpenetrating polymer network(SIPN)in the presence of N,N-methylenebisacrylamide(MBAAm)as the crosslinker and azodiisobutyronitrile(AIBN)as the initiator. The hydrogels were characterized by FT-IR,TGA,SEM,DSCand gravimetric swelling behavior. The dataindicated that the lignocellulose hydrogels were sensitive to the temperature alternation. Its swelling ratio decreased with the increase of the temperature.SEM images revealedthat the synthesized hydrogels had porous network structures.DSC curves demonstrated that the lower critical solution temperature(LCST)of lignocellulose-based hydrogels was approximately 34℃.Furthermore,the impact of lignin content onthe hydrogel properties wasdiscussed. The pore size increased with the incrementof the lignin content, which was also consisted with the increasing of swelling and deswelling rates of hydrogels.
