EFFECTSOF PRETREATMENT CONDITIONSON CHARACTERISTIC OF CELLULOSE NANOFIBERS

The effects of pretreatment conditions on the characteristics of cellulose nanofibers were investigated.Carboxymethylation and enzyme treatment were adopted as pretreatment of pulp fibers.Changes in morphology, electric charge, and rheological properties of cellulose nanofiber were evaluated. Also, energy consumption to get cellulose nanofiber from kraft pulp fiber by grinding was evaluated.Electrical charge of cellulose nanofibers was increased by carboxy methylation, which was affected by chloroacetic acid amount and reaction temperature.Enzyme treatment degraded the chemical components and changed the fiber length. The increased charge of fibers and decomposition by enzyme could reduce the grinding pass number for nanofibrillation and increased low shear viscosity.
