Structure and Properties of Meta-aramid Paper

  High performance aramid paper was made by wet-formingprocessand hot pressed at 280℃,15MPa,for 2.5min.The interfacial bonding properties and the crystallinity degreeof self-made aramid paper and Nomex T410 paper were characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SEM),laser micro-raman imaging spectrometer(RS),X-ray diffraction(XRD).The results show that theinterfacial bonding properties between chopped fibers and fibrids,strength performance and heat resistance properties of self-made aramid paper were verycloseto that of Nomex T410 paper.The tensile index of self-made aramid paper and Nomex T410 paper were 97.6 N·m·g-1 and 111 N·m·g-1 respectively; elongation at break of papers were 9.5%,12.8%(transverse); crystallinity 15.73%,15.15%.In addition,results of Raman spectra show that no new chemical bonds is formed between fibers and fibrids duringhot-pressing process,whilethere is significant increase of intermolecular hydrogen bond strength,which may bethe main reasonof paper mechanical properties improvement.
