APPLICATION OFSODIUM ALUMINATE IN KRAFT BAMBOO PULPING

  Bamboo is one kind of the most utilized non-wood biomass in Asian due to its fast-growing.One of the most important applications is the raw material for producing bamboo pulp in the pulp and paper industry.In such a case,a great challenge is to decrease the silicon dissolution into cooking liquor because of its high silicon content which can cause silicon problem in pulping and alkali recovery system.This paper revealed that sodium aluminate added in pulping sys tem effectively reduced silicon dissolution into cooking liquor during bamboo kraft pulping,and silicon concentration decreased with increased NaAlO2dosageinthe range 1%-3%.Meanwhile,it increased pulp ash content,viscosity and yield,but influenced adversely delignification,however the influence was marginal when 1%NaAlO2was adopted.This paper also found that adding NaAlO2at impregnation stage affected silicon concentration and pulp properties more than at cooking stage.This technology will be very attractive for industrial applications.
