Effect of Thermal Pressing Temperature on the Crystalline Characteristics of Aramid Paper
Para aramid fiber, named poly p-phenylene terephthanalamide phenylenediamine or PPTA.Because of the group of terephthalamide on the molecule structure separate from the benzene and come in to the π conjugate domino effect. The molecule chain present rigidity, the good linear structure formation. Thus it has high strength, high modulus, high temperature,acid-resistant,corrosion-resistant properties. The crystalline Characteristics of polymers have important influence on their physical and mechanical properties. So the crystalline properties of aramid fiber and PPTA paper-based materials were studied by XRD.The results show that the crystallinity of the para-aramid short-cut fiber is higher than the para-aramid fibrid. After wet forming, the more the thermal pressing temperature increased, the higher increasing of the crystallinity of paper. When the thermal pressing temperature was 220℃,the paper crystallinity was 81%,and the tensile strength is also increased. However, the temperature reaches 240℃,the crystallinity decreases, the performance of the paper is brittle, and the physical property is decreased.
